NHS student finalist in Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year competition

Normandy, Mo.— Normandy High School senior Da’Nija Jones has made it to the final four in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis Youth of the Year competition.
The 17-year-old was selected by a panel of judges and competed against 14 other youth from around the St. Louis area to be named a finalist. The award is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive and a signature national youth recognition program that celebrates the recipient’s contributions to their family, school, community, and their Boys & Girls Club.
Da’Nija has been a member of Boys & Girls Club for three years through the Be Great! Graduate program at Normandy High School. The program is a dropout prevention program that keeps youth on track to graduate. She also participates in Smart Girls and community service.
“My experience with the Boys & Girls Club has been interesting and fun. I have learned a lot and enjoy working with my mentor to discover resources and opportunities to better my future,” said Da’Nija.
After graduation, Da’Nija hopes to become a firefighter, paramedic or entrepreneur.
The winners of the Youth of the Year competition will be announced on October 20 at the annual Boys & Girls Clubs “Great Futures” gala to be held at the Muny in Forest Park.
