Normandy "Planning for Excellence," Continuing Future-Focused Journey

Teachers and staff recently kicked off the new school year at Normandy High School with a districtwide Convocation. Normandy Superintendent Dr. Charles Pearson addressed plans for the 2018-2019 school year which included continuing a future-focused journey with this year’s theme “Planning for Excellence!” as the driving force.

"Colleagues, I am excited about this next chapter in the life of the Normandy Schools Collaborative. I am more convinced than ever of the capacity we have among us to do great things for young people — our students," Dr. Pearson said.

This year, NSC will prepare to transition to the New Early Learning model that brings together pre-school, pre-K and kindergarten students; implement the new 1-8 'Elemiddle' instructional model in five elementary schools; and refine programming at the high school to better align with the needs of this region over the next 10 years.

Highlights included motivational remarks by Joint Executive Governing Board (JEGB) President Rev. Cedric Portis Sr. (watch the video here) and a presentation by Mizzou professors Drs. Lisa Powers and Erica Lembke on Response to Intervention, which will provide teachers and principals additional tools to help improve student academic achievement and behavior.

NSC will continue to implement wrap around services and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to support students’ social and emotional needs both inside and outside the classroom. #NormandyStrong #Convocation #Kairos #PlanningExcellence
