  • Normandy High Schoolers Collect Personal and Infant Care, Toys, School Supplies for Hurricane Michael Victims

What:  Students in the Normandy High School Center for Academic and Social Advancement (CASA) program are collecting personal care items and children’s toys to donate to residents effected by Hurricane Michael in Florida. The drive is part of the students’ service learning program CASA CARES. The students are collecting travel size personal care items for all ages, and toys and games for youth.

When: The students will collect the items now through December 21.

Where: Items can be dropped off at Normandy High School-North Hall, 6701 St. Charles Rock Road.

Who:    CASA CARES is the Service Learning Committee of the Center for Academic and Social Advancement (CASA) at Normandy High School. The Hurricane Michael relief effort is their first project of many to come, standing with and supporting families and communities in Florida where the hurricane hit. CASA CARES wants to connect with you, your loved ones and community to show the world that we are all #StrongerthantheStorm.

More about CASA and CASA CARES:

The Center for Academic and Social Advancement (CASA) is a partnership between students, teachers, parents and the community whereby all students develop essential skills that will enable them to become productive citizens. The vision of the CASA program is a community in which students value education, self-improvement, and the opportunity to succeed.

The CASA CARES Service Learning Committee is a new initiative created and led by students of the CASA program. Students chose to do a personal hygiene and child-centered drive because, as one student put it, “I would want someone to help me if I woke up, and everything I had was gone.” The service learning initiative is led by the students with the help of the program’s social worker, Ms. Susan McLean.
