Lead Water Testing
The Normandy Schools Collaborative is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff. In compliance with the Get the Lead Out of School Drinking Water Act (RSMo 160.077) and our ongoing commitment to safety, we partnered with Intertek - PSI, a professional environmental consulting firm, to evaluate our water systems.
The Missouri legislature passed the Get the Lead Out of School Drinking Water Act in 2022, establishing strict guidelines for lead levels in school drinking water. The law requires schools to:
- Conduct an inventory and testing of all drinking water outlets and those used for food preparation or cleaning cooking utensils.
- Share results directly with families, post findings on the district’s website, and report them to the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).
Key Details About the Law:
- Missouri’s action level for lead is 5 parts per billion (ppb), stricter than the EPA’s standard of 15 ppb.
- Schools must complete water testing by August 1, 2024.
- If all tested sources in a building are below 5 ppb, retesting is required every five years.
- Outlets testing above 5 ppb require annual testing until remediation is successful.
We take this responsibility seriously and will ensure all drinking and food preparation water sources meet or exceed safety standards. Results and updates will be shared with our community to maintain transparency and trust.
If you have questions or concerns regarding the district’s lead testing, please contact Evelyn Days, Director of Operations at 314-493-0188 (Office) or by email.
