The New Normandy Early Learning Center

    What's happening to the 'middle school?'

    Beginning fall 2019, the Collaborative will move to an 'EleMiddle' model for elementary schools. Normandy elementary schools will serve grades 1-8. For more information on the new 'EleMiddle' model, click here.

     

New Early Learning Center Scheduled to Open Fall 2019

     The new Early Learning Center will be home to students in pre-school, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, providing a state-of-the-art facility for the Collaborative’s youngest scholars. The new facility will be located at the current site of the Normandy 7th-8th Grade Center and is scheduled to open in Fall 2019.

     Here are some fast facts about the new Early Learning Center:

  • Solid Foundation Equals Long-term Academic Success: The research overwhelmingly shows that students who attend early childhood programs with a strong curriculum are more likely to have academic success throughout their schooling.
     
  • Normandy ECC Program Recognized by State: Normandy’s Early Childhood Center has been recognized by the state for its Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS), earning a bronze award for two consecutive years. In addition, the NECC staff was invited to showcase at the 2018 Conference of the Young Years. The NECC was one of only four in the state to be invited to share their strategies and outcomes with ECE providers from throughout the state. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education also singled out the NECC for an instructional video used to help train other early childhood centers on the Project Construct curriculum.
     
  • Taking the Lead in ECE: Normandy is taking the lead in the state by providing early childhood education as part of its curriuclum. Very few public school districts in the state offer free early childhood programs; Missouri currently ranks 44th in its investment in early childhood programs. By making this investment, Normandy is providing needed services to better prepare our students for long-term success. And because the new facility is bigger, we will also be able to serve more students within our footprint.  
     
  • Community Support Makes it Possible: The new school is part of the facility upgrades made possible by the voters’ approval of Proposition N in April 2017. Prop N is a $23 million no-tax-rate increase bond issue providing funds for the new Early Learning Center as well as facility upgrades throughout the Collaborative, including new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) studios, and library media centers at Washington and Jefferson Elementary schools.
