District Success

Normandy Schools Collaborative achieved academic growth last school year, with notable progress in K–3 reading. Kindergarten results were especially impressive, with the percentage of students reading at or above grade level skyrocketing from 12% at the start of the year to 70% by year’s end. We reintroduced dual enrollment and Advanced Placement (AP) programs after a two-year hiatus, engaging more than 45 scholars while also broadening our Career and College Readiness opportunities. Furthermore, 98% of our classroom teachers are certified, and student attendance rates rose by an impressive 25%. To ensure continuous improvement, we have implemented academic programs, including Read 180 and i-Ready diagnostics for High School students, and a curriculum to support our Multilingual Learners.
Since August 2023, the district has invested over $400,000 in safety enhancements, including more security staff, panic button badges, upgraded surveillance, updated metal detectors, clear book bag policies, and a cell phone ban for middle and high school students. These measures have led to fewer suspensions, disciplinary hearings, expulsions, and altercations, creating a safer and more focused learning environment.
For the first time since 2014, the Joint Executive Governing Board returned to full local control on June 30, 2024, and is now composed entirely of elected members. To ensure every stakeholder's voice is heard, Dr. Michael Triplett, Superintendent of Normandy Schools Collaborative, launched the district's first-ever advisory board for scholars and families, creating a direct channel for input on issues affecting the district.
We have also restructured our Middle School to boost student achievement while reducing operating costs. Additionally, a comprehensive audit of our Wrap-Around services has strengthened support for scholars and families, with a focus on student mental health and family engagement. These initiatives demonstrate our dedication to fostering a stronger, more inclusive community.
At Normandy Schools Collaborative, we take financial responsibility seriously. Since March 2023, we have saved over $6 million by reducing non-essential expenses and upgrading our payroll system. In December 2024, we earned an Unmodified Audit Opinion, the highest rating for school districts, reflecting our commitment to sound financial practices. Additionally, the district received a $144,300 state reimbursement, which was invested in literacy and bilingual education programs. With a healthy Fund Reserve of $27 million—equivalent to a 40% balance—we are well-prepared to address any district emergencies.
